Australasian Quilt Convention

I don’t really enter my quilts into shows anymore.
I find the paperwork and photography arduous but mostly it’s because i just don't think that is the best way to show them too advantage.

But I am so thrilled for the opportunity to have my quilts at a quilt show when they can be seen at their best.

For the next couple of days you can see a couple of my large quilts as well as some of my “women” at the ZiguZagu

Recent work

Ah, blogger. The last time I posted after a long break it was all too easy. This morning it won’t let me type anything so now I am editing the post I just made!

This quilt is a collation of lots of left over pieces from other projects. I was inspired by the quilt in

“Unexpected and Unconventional. American Quilts Below the Radar”

In the past I have made quite a few quilts using fabrics from old Japanese textiles, mostly kimonos and futon covers. I only used the “good” bits without holes or fading or other imperfection.

My recent project has been to go back into that stash of discards to make the latest projects.

What i have been doing is assembling the piece, hand quilting all of it then going back and “mending” the holes. I guess I’m doing my version of “boro”

Hi there, remember me?

It looks like I haven’t posted for such a long time. Let’s seeing if i can get this to work again?

So far so good
I have been making a lot of these lately.
I started them a few years ago when there seemed so many pressing issues that made me want to get out and protest. Well that hasn’t changed!

Ah…log cabin

Is it just me or has this blogging business got more complicated?
Or less complicated?

Has anyone noticed differences I should know about?

Meanwhile...
I have kept myself busy making a log cabin quilt.
I saw one draped across the foot of the bed in a popular TV show that inspired me. The block placement looked quite random. Got carried away and did another one!

A large proportion of the fabric and thread were "donations" (and these are both BIG quilts)

I have hand quilted them with Wonderfil Spaghetti thread.

It is lovely thread somewhere between the thick Perle thread favoured by some and quilting thread. It is mercerised so pulls through nicely.

You can see one my favourite log cabin quilts back here
It has been comforting to have stitching to fall back on when so many around you seem to be
struggling or losing their commonsense.
Cheers for now.

Now we are out on the loose in time for Spring and everything seems rosy.
I have kept busy drawing and stitching. As they said back at the beginning us quilters have spent our lives training for this.
So here I am. It feels like I have to learn how to do this all over again. What have I missed?

Getting ready

This week I delivered a couple of pieces for a group show.
It is very exciting to hang yourself out there for the public see.
